ATTITUDE +++

Attitude++

Author Unknown

Harvard and Stanford Universities have reported that 85% the reason a person gets a job and gets ahead in that job is due to attitude; and only 15% is because of technical or specific skills. Interesting, isn't it?

You spent how much money on your education? And you spent how much money on building your positive attitude? Ouch. That hurts.

Now here's an interesting thought. With the "right" attitude, you can and will develop the necessary skills. So where's your emphasis? Skill building? Attitude building? Unfortunately, "Neither" is the real answer for many people. Perhaps if more people knew how simple it is to develop and maintain a positive attitude they would invest more time doing so.

So here we go. - Five steps to staying positive in a negative world:

1. Understand that failure is an event, it is not a person. Yesterday ended last night; today is a brand new day, and it's yours. You were born to win, but to be a winner you must plan to win, prepare to win, and then you can expect to win.

2. Become a lifetime student. Learn just one new word every day and in five years you will be able to talk with just about anybody about anything. When your vocabulary improves, your I.Q. goes up 100% of the time, according to Georgetown Medical School.

3. Read something informational or inspirational every day.

Reading for 20 minutes at just 240 words per minute will enable you to read twenty 200-page books each year. That's 18 more than the average person reads! What an enormous competitive advantage . . . if you'll just read for twenty minutes a day.

4. The University of Southern California reveals that you can acquire the equivalent of two years of a college education in three years just by listening to motivational and educational cassettes on the way to your job and again on the way home. What could be easier?

5. Start the day and end the day with positive input into your mind.

Inspirational messages cause the brain to flood with dopamine and norepinephrine, the energizing neurotransmitters; with endorphins, the endurance neurotransmitters; and with serotonin, the feel-good-about-yourself neurotransmitter.

Begin and end the day by reading or doing something positive!

Remember: Success is a process, not an event.

Invest the time in your attitude and it will pay off in your skills as well as your career.

Think of it.......

Mrs.Rathna Khemani-World renowned Personality Development Trainer

1st April 2007
Make Your Child a Winner
Seminar by Ms. Ratna Khemani
As parents we want our child to succeed, be a winner in life.
However, we are sometimes lost as to how to help our child.
Ratna Khemani, an internationally acclaimed Personality
Counsellor, Director of the Pune-based Academy of Natural
Health & Beauty & the Centre for Personality Development
conducted a parenting workshop to help parents make their
child a winner. She shared her insights to a Chennai audience
on April 1st in an interactive public programme organised by
Sangati Trust in Anna Nagar, Chennai.
There were about 10 couples and some of them had brought
their children along with them. Since this was a session
meant exclusively for parents, the parents were concerned
the children will become restless during the session. Ratnaji
suggested the children we allow to sit near their parents and
do some drawing. The children initially stayed with the
parents drawing, but soon found playing together in a
neighbouring room more interesting !
Here are some comments made during the seminar and discussions,
Some of us become parents by accident, some by societal
pressure. Do you understand what I mean by societal pressure.
There are many people who have nothing better to do in the
world, except for commenting and suggesting. They pressurise
your mother-in-laws. Having a child is a very personal choice,
which has to be made with a great amount of responsibility,
wisdom and thought. Once you have a child it must be given
the best that you can. Only some become parents by choice.
Bringing up a child is a most intricate kind of work. Whatever a child
becomes we are responsible, as parents and as teachers.
Love - show the love, be kind, dont ignore the child
Children are 10 times more intelligent than you. Be Honest. If you dont
know dont give false answers. Tell her, "I'll check and answer you."
Support - Be approachable. Children tell lies because they are scared.
Dont automatically send your child to tuitions, only if she needs it. If
the child spends all waking hours in school and tuition, when will the
child play ?
Give the child space.
Understanding and Trust - trust your child. If he is going to be with
his friends, trust him, let him have his space.
Encourage the child . Your child is capable. Encourage it.
If you want children to do something, follow a rule, you better first.
If you want your child to eat green vegetables, you should first eat them.
You (Parent) are the first teacher. Home is the first school.
Nutrition Point : Our food does not have fibres. carrots, cucumbers,
califlowers
Constipation is the root cause of most problems in a child. If you
dont take care of this, you'll end up with 100 other problems. See that
your child gets up early in morning, goes to toilet in the morning everyday,
this is more important than meeting the Prime Minister !
Eat greens - spinach. Eat vegetables - carrot , cabbage, cauliflower - all
naturally coloured ones have Beta-carotine good for the eyes and
cancer-fighting agent.
Its not automatic that after reaching 50 you must use reading glasses.
Congenital is different. But wearing glasses is not part of natural process
of ageing.
If your child is a rose, accept him to be a rose. Other children may be
jasmine, chrysanthemum, magnolia, etc. Accept him to be rose.
There is nothing like a generation gap. There is a generation difference.
Generation difference is always there between us and our parents, our
parents and their parents. but the gap is created when we are overdemanding,
overcritical, etc. Dont tell the child,'When I was small I was like this.'
Dont take the child backward.
Spend as much time as you can with your child. Take your child with
you whenever you can, even on work, when possible. Take drawing paper,
pencils,etc.
Dont think by buying extra toys, extra expensive things you can make
up for your time.
No greater gift to a child, than giving him yourself.
Dont medicate your children for mental stress or other issues unless
its absolutely necessary.
All of the points were communicated using lively demonstrations with the
participation of the audience and simple but powerful anecdotes and
examples.
Ratna's Gems © for Parents, 2005.
* Remember your child is 10 times more intelligent than you. He cannot be fooled even for a minute.
* Give him correct information, in a simple and straightforward way. If you do not know some answer, tell him, you will find out
* Surround him with an atmosphere of love. Give him love for what he is, not because he has come 1st in class or excelled in atheletics or extra curricular activities.
* Remember he is facing pressure in his life, just as we adults are facing in our life. He may not be able to express it verbally, but shows it in throwing temper tantrums, depression, failing & not performing.well in school, bed wetting, or finding solace in eating a large amount.
* Spend time with him by sharing some hobbies or even going for errands together.
* Do not be critical, over demanding, condemning.
* Discipline in eating, watching TV, playing, sleeping & studying on time, must be observed.
* Be kind when you are talking to him. sometimes our own problems , for which the child is not responsible, are passed on to him, by our bad temper & rudeness.
* Remember the 1st school of a child is home & the 1st teachers are we, parents. Inculcate the right values & the right habits by following them yourself.
* Terrorists are not born terrorists. They are made by us. They are made by society by our rude, mean condemning behaviour.
* Keep the doors of communication open by being receptive & encouraging, so he can talk to you.
* There is no generation gap. There is a generation difference. This existed between our parents & us, between their parents & them. The gap is what we create, by our own behaviour.
* Give your child encouragement, love, support & trust.
* Allow him to make decisions, commensurate with his age & ability.
* Give him space. We all like to be left alone, with our thoughts, many times. so does your child.
* Make the most of this beautiful relationship. It is God's gift. Value it.
* With all my awards & accolades, if you ask me, "what is your greatest achievement, Ratna? I would say, " bringing up the 3 most wonderful children on earth, who are beautiful young adults & most important of all, gorgeous human beings"

PROPHET MOHAMMED'S TEACHINGS

THIS SERMON WAS DElIVERED ON THE NINETH DAY OF DHUL

HIJJAH 10 A. H. IN THE "URANAH VALLEY OF MOUNT ARAFAT"

"O' People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether, after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.

"O' People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your LORD, and that HE will indeed reckon your deeds. ALLAH, has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived .......

Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O' People, it is true that you have certain right with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to commit adultery.

O' People, listen to me in earnest, worship ALLAH, say your five daily prayers (Salahi), fast during the month of Ramdan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to. You know that every Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. You are all equal. Nobody has superiority over other except by piety and good action.

Remember, one day you will appear before ALLAH and answer for your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O' people, No Prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore O' People, and understand my words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the QURAN and my example the SUNNAH and if you follow this you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness O' ALLAH, that I have conveyed your message to your people.

I respectfully present this in honor of my Islamic brethren. K. Mathew Thomas

vivekananda's message

Now, let me give you some instructions. This letter is meant for you. Please go through these instructions once a day and act up to them. I have got Sarada's letter ” he is doing good work ” but now we want organization. To him, Brother Tarak, and others please give my special love and blessings. The reason why I give you these few instructions is that there is an organising power in you ” the Lord has made this known to me ” but it is not yet fully developed. Through His blessings it will soon be. That you never lose your centre of gravity is an evidence of this, but it must be both intensive and extensive.

1. All the Shastras hold that the threefold misery that there is in this world is not natural, hence it is removable.

2. In the Buddha Incarnation the Lord says that the root of the Adhibhautika misery or, misery arising from other terrestrial beings, is the formation of
classes (Jati); in other words, every form of class-distinction, whether based on birth, or acquirements, or wealth is at the bottom of this misery. In the Atman there is no distinction of sex, or Varna or Ashrama, or anything of the kind, and as mud cannot be washed away by mud, it is likewise impossible to bring about oneness by means of separative ideas.

3. In the Krishna Incarnation He says that the root of all sorts of misery is Avidya (Nescience) and that selfless work purifies the mind. But

” Even sages are bewildered to decide what is work and what is no-work" (Gita).

4. Only that kind of work which develops our spirituality is work. Whatever fosters materiality is no-work.

5. Therefore work and no-work must be regulated by a person's aptitude, his country, and his age.

6. Works such as sacrifices were suited to the olden times but are not for the modern times.

7. From the date that the Ramakrishna Incarnation was born, has sprung the Satya-Yuga (Golden Age) . . . .

8. In this Incarnation atheistic ideas ... will be destroyed by the sword of Jnana (knowledge), and the whole world will be unified by means of Bhakti (devotion) and Prema (Divine Love). Moreover, in this Incarnation, Rajas, or the desire for name and fame etc., is altogether absent. In other words, blessed is he who acts up to His teachings; whether he accepts Him or not, does not matter.

9. The founders of different sects, in the ancient or modern times, have not been in the wrong. They have done well, but they must do better. Well ” better ” best.

10. Therefore we must take all up where they are, that is, we must lead them on to higher and higher ideals, without upsetting their own chosen attitude. As to social conditions, those that prevail now are good, but they shall be better ” best.

11. There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is not possible for a bird to fly on only one wing.

12. Hence, in the Ramakrishna Incarnation the acceptance of a woman as the Guru, hence His practicing in the woman's garb and frame of mind, hence too His preaching the motherhood of women as representations of the Divine Mother.

13. Hence it is that my first endeavour is to start a Math for women. This Math shall be the origin of Gargis and Maitreyis, and women of even higher attainments than these. . . .

14. No great work can be achieved by humbug. It is through love, a passion for truth, and tremendous energy, that all undertakings are accomplished.

” Therefore, manifest your manhood.

15. There is no need for quarrel or dispute with anybody. Give your message and leave others to their own thoughts.

” Truth alone triumphs, not falsehood.
